Our Lady of the Castle Parish Church

  • Fuente Obejuna

This Gothic style temple stands at the highest point of the town; it was erected in the last quarter of the fifteenth century
. It has three main entrances, the one on the south side being the most artistic and important.
It has a pointed and flared arch; in front there is a portico with four semicircular arches with three capitals from the I-II and IV centuries. Its basilica plan comprises three naves separated by pointed arches, with ribbed vaults.
Of great artistic interest are the altarpieces of the Chapel of the Sagrario, of Gothic style, made between the XV and XVI century, and the High Altarpiece, of Renaissance style and dated in the second half of the XVI century.
On the other hand, the chapels that open on the sides of this church, treasure altarpieces corresponding to the XVI-XVII and XVIII centuries; being found in one of them, a baptismal font of stone with geometric decorations of the XV century; an oil on canvas of half point dated at the beginning of the XVI, images of the XVI- XVII and XVIII and collateral altarpieces of the XVII.
The Parish keeps among its treasures, an artistic Processional Monstrance of the plateresque style of Cordoba, made of silver in its color and gilded silver, embossed, chiseled, with cast figures, attributed to Juan Ruiz el Vandalino and must have been made around 1550.
