Ornithological route of Los Blázquez

  • The Blázquez family

The Ornithological Route of Los Blázquez is a circular route that allows you to discover the natural and scenic wealth of the municipality through rural roads, crop fields and old meeting places linked to agricultural and livestock life. The itinerary has an approximate length of 10.7 kilometers and is recommended throughout the year, although the spring and summer months are especially interesting to observe species such as the lesser kestrel in the surroundings of the Los Llanos farmhouse.

The route starts south of the town, in the surroundings of the Pozo de las Mulas, a place traditionally linked to farmers and ranchers, who came to draw water for their animals and share conversation about the work of the field. From this point, the path advances through open landscapes through areas such as the path of Las Casas, the farmhouse of Las Casas, the Lagunazo, the Camino de la Plata, the path of Las Pizarrillas and the farmhouse of Los Llanos.

The route continues to La Esparragosa, an ancient village, now uninhabited, of which some ruins can still be seen. According to local tradition, its inhabitants left the place because of a smallpox epidemic and settled in Los Blázquez, thus contributing to the history and configuration of the current municipality.

In addition to its ornithological interest, this route offers a very complete experience for those seeking nature, agricultural landscape, rural memory and tranquility. It is an ideal proposal for unhurried walking, bird watching, enjoying the environment of the Guadiato Valley and understanding the close relationship of Los Blázquez with its territory.
