Parish of the Immaculate Conception

  • Valsequillo

The Parish of the Immaculate Conception is one of the most outstanding religious buildings in Villaviciosa de Córdoba. The current temple was built in the fifties by Regiones Devastadas, following the project of the architects Daniel Sánchez Puch and Ángel Marchena.

Its interior presents a solemn architecture of neoclassical inspiration, organized in a Latin cross plan. The different sections are articulated by Ionic columns, which are duplicated in the pillars of the transept, over whose central space rises a dome. The polygonal chevet reinforces the elegance of the whole, while the lateral portals incorporate neo-baroque details.

On the exterior, the façade stands out for its well-kept facade, with a façade of balanced composition and fluted columns. Next to it rises the reddish brick tower, topped by an octagonal bell tower and a capital decorated with needles and blue tiles. The result is a complex of great urban presence, where the regionalist influence characteristic of Sánchez Puch can be appreciated.
