San Isidro Pilgrimage

  • The Blázquez family

In the heart of the Guadiato Valley, Los Blázquez celebrates every May one of its most beloved traditions: the Pilgrimage of San Isidro Labrador, patron saint of the municipality. The current devotion to San Isidro dates back to 1954, the year in which the Brotherhood of Farmers and Ranchers acquired the image of the Saint; since then, the pilgrimage has been part of the festive and rural identity of the town.

The events begin on May 1 with the transfer of San Isidro from his hermitage to the village church. On the 15th, the image is carried through the streets in procession, and on the fourth Saturday of May the great pilgrimage is celebrated, a day of coexistence that begins in the square with the ringing of bells and floral offering.

From there the road to the hermitage starts, accompanied by decorated horses, floats and neighbors who fill the day with color, music and festive atmosphere. Upon arrival, a mass is celebrated in honor of San Isidro and songs dedicated to the Saint are performed, with lyrics created by the neighbors themselves, a detail that makes this pilgrimage a particularly close and authentic celebration.

The rest of the day is enjoyed in the surroundings of the hermitage, located in the surroundings of the Sierra del Castillo, where families, friends and visitors share food, tradition and outdoor festivities. In the evening, the atmosphere continues with dancing, orchestra and DJ, making the San Isidro Pilgrimage an essential date to discover the hospitality, popular devotion and rural character of Los Blázquez.
