The Modernist Palace, also known as Casa Cardona, is one of the architectural jewels of Fuente Obejuna and one of the most unique examples of modernism in the Guadiato Valley. It was built by D. Pedro Celestino Romero de Santos, following the architectural taste of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
The building has a first floor, main floor, second floor, basement and upper roof. Its facades concentrate the decoration on doors, windows and balconies, while the rest of the building is organized by horizontal bands that simulate ashlars. The terrace is topped with an elegant handrail that resembles an openwork cresting.
One of its most striking elements is the façade, organized with great symmetry and decorated with curved, circular and parabolic lines typical of modernist language. Inside, the central glass roof stands out, allowing natural light to enter and favoring the ventilation of the house through a system of openings.
Because of its beauty, originality and heritage value, the Cardona House is an essential stop to discover the historical architecture of Fuente Obejuna.
